Saturday CFV hosted the first of hopefully many Central Coast Affiliate Gatherings. Thanks to Colin, Bill, and all of CrossFit Ventura for having us all. I had a lot of fun hanging out and working out with everyone. The workouts were programmed by the legendary OPT and were a great test of fitness in multiple skills. I especially liked the "Unbreakable" WOD: an AMRAP 15 (as many rounds as possible in 15 minutes) WOD of 7 unbroken 95lb shoulder-to-overhead and 25 double-unders. The true beauty of this event though, was the… read more →
Today I signed the lease and officially found a home for CrossFit Goodland. We will be located at 5718 Hollister Ave, in Old Town Goleta. I am so excited to start ordering equipment and transforming the space into a gym. Its been a long road and this is only the beginning, but we should be operational within the next month.
Everyone needs coaching to achieve their true athletic potential. Coaches are no different and need coaching in order to constantly improve their ability to effectively train others. I just spent the weekend in San Diego with Coach Burgener and his crew in the USD weight room. I spent the two days honing my skills as an athlete and coach in the progressions and techniques of the Olympic Lifts: the clean and jerk and snatch. These two lifts are the most dynamic weightlifting motions in our training arsenal. They combine strength,… read more →

Welcome to the new online home of CrossFit Goodland. This website is somewhat of a work in progress, so please bear with me. I will be posting intermittent status updates and pictures of the location and its transformation into CrossFit Goodland's physical home until we open. Stay tuned to witness the manifestation of a dream…
Nick Conn (Hint: the younger one) I grew up in a small mountain town hiking and skiing with my family in the Eastern Sierra. When my family moved to Sacramento I had trouble adjusting to life in the big city until I realized that the opportunities that city life presented, in particular the opportunity to play organized sports. First, because there were more kids around, and secondly because I wasn’t “forced” to ski for the entire season. I played water polo and did swim team in High School and began… read more →
CrossFit Goodland is not simply a gym. CrossFit Goodland is a community of athletes dedicated to the purpose of maximizing individual athletic potential and personal health. There are no mirrors on our walls or fancy machines taking up our floor space, at CrossFit Goodland we rely on the human machine to move weight. Our workouts are short and intense, but not at the expense of proper form and healthy motion. Through intensity we maximize not only our athletic potential, but also receive the most possible return from our time in… read more →

The basic answer is: “constantly varied functional motions performed at a high intensity,” but this phrase alone is deceptively dense and requires explanation. CrossFit is a fitness program that is scalable and applicable to any individual’s needs or ability regardless of age, sex, or fitness level. The ideal training to fulfill the fitness needs of both the elite athlete and your grandmother differ by degree and intensity, not kind. CrossFit provides a true definition for fitness: increased work capacity across broad time and modal domains, and each day we work to… read more →
