Frequently Asked Questions

Got Questions? We’ve Got Answers!

Santa Barbara Strength is different. It is understandable that you might have some questions. The best way to get answers is to contact us directly, but below is a list of some of the most common questions we get asked…

How do I get started?

Shoot us an email to schedule a FREE Intro/Assessment Workout.

Can’t I just begin with a group class?

We prefer to meet with prospective athletes in a one on one setting for assessment and orientation regardless of experience level. This is to ensure your safety and to preserve the training atmosphere we work hard to maintain in our group sessions.

I run and workout regularly. Can I just join a Group Class?

Can you perform a proper squat, deadlift, and press? Can you Snatch? Jerk? How about just a solid push-up? Is your body already adapted to high intensity training? We have established strict movement standards to preserve the safety and efficacy in training through proper technique and progression. Call or email us to schedule an Intro Session and consultation so we can assess your specific needs… In the beginning it’s best not to leave the gym feeling like you got run over by a freight train.

I’m already an athlete. I do CrossFit. Can I join the group classes?

Please contact our coaches in advance to let them know your experience level. Athletes from other gyms have a wide variety of strengths and weaknesses of which we are unaware until we work with you. With enough experience it is possible to test into the group classes, but more often than not it is still advisable to participate in our introductory course. This is especially true of athletes with less experience…

I train at a CrossFit facility and am traveling through town. Can I drop in?

Please contact our coaches in advance to let them know your experience level and when you would like to come in. Athletes from other gyms have a wide variety of strengths and weaknesses of which we are unaware until we work with you and we have an obligation to keep things safe for our members. Please respect this gym and it’s athletes. Drop in fees are 20$ a session.

How long will it take for me to achieve RX’d?

No real answer to this question can exist. The amount of time depends upon a variety of factors. Former athletes on balanced diets with a good lifestyle tend to progress fairly quickly. They tend to have already developed the work ethic and mindset training requires. De-conditioned couch surfers and high carb cardio junkies tend to take a bit longer to achieve the level of strength and motor control required, but nothing is impossible. Regardless of your starting point mastering movement, modifying nutrition, adjusting lifestyle habits, and staying consistent will streamline your adaptation to training and optimize your results.

What if I have specific goals/want personal coaching?

Personal coaching is a great option for those who need a little extra help, or want to focus on a specific goal. The beauty of the group class structure is that we can offer quality coaching at a rate most people can afford, but in an ideal world every athlete should work 1 on 1 with their coach.

Do you offer a family discount?

Absolutely! For one-year commitments only: 15% off per month for each additional family member. There is no family discount for private training sessions unless family members are sharing the training session, in which case the normal partner training rates apply.

What is your cancellation policy?

One time training clients:
24 hours advance notice is required to prevent loss of session fees.

1-on-1 training clients:
The session dates and times that you book with your trainer are reserved for you alone for that 30 day period. Within any given 30 day training period you may have one rescheduled cancellation if you provide at least 24 hours notice. Rescheduling is subject to your trainer’s availability and must take place prior to your session package expiration dates.

1-on-2 and 1-on-3 training clients
The session dates and times that you book with your trainer are reserved for you alone for that 30 day period. Sessions missed by one member of a small training group cannot be made up. If for some reason all members of a small training group need to cancel/reschedule they may do so once within any 30 day training period if they provide 24 hours notice. Rescheduling is subject to your trainer’s availability and must take place prior to your session package expiration dates.

All “NO SHOW” missed appointments will be billed at full session rate.

Can I get credit or refund for missed group class sessions?

No. Your dues are treated as tuition.

Can I put my membership on hold?

Yes. The membership hold fees is $30/month. Holds will not be applied for any period less than a fortnight. Athletes going into season may put their membership on hold during season without charge.

How do I cancel my membership?

Simply shoot us an email so we have a written record ONE MONTH before you would like to cancel. If the notice is later than a month before the next payment you are still responsible for the final dues payment.

What are your hours?

Personal training is by appointment only. Please contact us to schedule your sessions. Group classes require private training as pre-requisite or testing to determine eligibility. See above.
